Days Out, Attractions & Parks

There's a huge amount to do up here - you'll find an evening's reading worth of leaflets and information at the cottage, but here are some family-friendly starters:

Alton Towers

Alton Towers is the UK's greatest theme park, home to legendary thrills like Oblivion, Nemesis and Air.

Castleton caverns

Boat rides under the Peak District National Park and the chance to buy jewellery. Excellent on hot or rainy days.

Churnet Valley Railway

This steam railway runs alongside the canal to Froghall junction, stopping on the way at Consall, where there are worse things to do than have a pint at the Black Lion. At Froghall, The Station pub provides huge portions of great value grub.

Gulliver's Fun

Gullivers theme parks have three of the best family entertainment resorts in the UK. Including rides, shows and attractions and exciting roller coasters and thrill rides.

Heights of Abraham

Take a cable car up the country’s first ever alpine style cable car system. The comfortable and smooth journey - included in your entry ticket – carries you from the valley floor to the hillside high above and provides some truly stunning views of the surrounding Peak District.

National Tramway Museum

Crich Tramway Village is a lovingly restored period village that is also home to the National Tramway Museum and its world renowned archives.

Peak Rail

Peak Rail run regular Steam and Diesel hauled heritage passenger trains between Matlock Riverside and Rowsley.

Rudyard Lake

Rudyard Kipling's parents spent their honeymoon here in nearby Rudyard village. Obviously, they had a great time if they felt driven to name their son after the place! In the 1800s, Rudyard was a massive attraction, with up to 20,000 people visiting a day. Today, it's still a beautiful place, but you'll be pleased to hear it's not so crowded. Angling, rowing, sailing and canoeing are all popular, and boats can be rented in the summer. There's also a narrow-gauge railway alongside the lake.
